What are some communication strategies for talking to people who have a hearing loss?

-Avoid communicating where there is a lot of noise or visial activity
-Avoid standing in front of a light source when speaking
-Allow the person with hearing loss to choose their seating first
-Do not have anything in your mouth when you are speaking
-Do not cover your mouth when you are speaking
-Look directly at the person you are speaking to and maintain eye contact
-Know that speaking louder does not necessarily make things clearer
-Write down difficult or unfamiliar words as needed
-Be patient and take time to communicate
-In a group setting, make sure only one person speaks at a time
-Re-phrase if the person is unable to hear the words spoken
-Make sure to have the person's attention before speaking
