Laurie Wischmeyer obtained her undergraduate degree in deaf education from TCU and a Master of Arts degree in advanced study in deafness from Gallaudet University. She is certified as a Teacher of the Deaf in the state of Texas and has recently obtained licensure as an Audiology Assistant. For over 20 years, Laurie has supported deaf/hard of hearing, deaf/blind, and auditorily different children in partnership with their families from infancy through post high school. She truly enjoys the process of helping people discover their communication goals as they learn to navigate and take ownership of their life with a hearing difference.
Professional experience includes Plano Regional Day School for the Deaf, Maryland School for the Deaf, Early Childhood Education (ECI), Keller ISD, and Birdville Regional Day School for the Deaf. She is well versed in special education referral, identification, and IEP development as well as 504 eligibility and processes. Additionally, Laurie has teamed with a variety of therapists, ENT’s, and audiologists in the Tarrant County area to provide a collaborative experience to the individuals she serves.
Laurie and her husband have two daughters who have turned into delightful adults. She enjoys curating spaces to spend time with friends and family around a table of good food and great card games.
